I’ve really got to work on my golf swing
Seriously, I never knew how bad it was until SE Castle took some pictures of me at a charity golf scramble Friday. I’ve played golf for probably seven years now, and I have just recently gotten to the point where I feel like I can not completely humiliate myself in front of the people I’m with, but I think that was premature. Here are some pictures of my swing:

OK, see here, we’re not doing too bad. Head down, hips rotated, I’ve got plaid shorts on — looking good. My torso should probably be at more of a down angle than it is, and I am rolling my left ankle over, which doesn’t seem right. Let’s continue:

Wow, um, alright. My hands are down around stomach height, and my club is still straight up in the air. Also, take a look at my thumb, which is oddly pointed straight up the shaft, which I don’t think is where it is supposed to be. My hips are already starting to point out toward the green, meaning my hands are going to be way late to the ball. Let’s see how this will play out:

Oh this isn’t good at all. My club face is open like I’m going to hit the ball with the worng side of it, my right hand is underneath my left one. Again, I don’t know much about golf, but this looks really awkward.

My hands are almost touching my stomach, I rotated my left foot around, looks like I broke my wrists too late.

Sigh. I look like Charles Barkley.

That’s actually pretty sweet. Hello Facebook!
So there you go — my golf swing put out there for the world to see. Any golfers out there want to give me some tips? They’d be greatly appreciated since now I’m going to be embarrassed to set foot on a golf course until I fix my swing.
I talked to a couple of golf pros here at the office. They seem to think the plaid shorts are the problem.
to add to what tim said, ashley says the problem is that the (brown) plaid shorts don’t match your (black) shoes.
Hello Tyler,
I am not a golf pro but the first photo tells it all. At the top of your swing the shoulders have turned 90 degrees which will cause the classic over the top swing. Pro golfers turn there shoulders against a restricted hip turn to create power. However they are very flexable from hitting 300 balls a day. You problem is you are not turning your hips enough to complete a full shoulder turn. Your left knee action looks good but your left foot is still on the ground restricting your turn.
Try setting up to the ball with your left foot angled out about 20 to 30 degress. You must do this in order for the hips to clear out of the way on the downswing. With left foot angled out the shoulders and hips will be slightly open. To square the hips and shoulders to the target, roll the weight to the inside of the left foot this will make your hips and shoulders parallel to the target. You will probably feel that the right foot is supporting 80% of your weight and the left 20%. Also your posture will be in the classic K position right shoulder lower than the left. When you start the backswing the hips will automatically start to turn right. The key is to check the shoulders at the top of the swing, if they have not turned the required 90 degrees you will need to raise the left heel off the ground in order to complete the shoul
Wow, that’s really helpful, Ron. I’m printing that guy out right….now.
