Angry phone call
It’s that time again!
This one comes at you via my voicemail (like an e-mail, but out loud…whatever, here goes):
“I am absolutely outraged that the beauty pageants at the county fair this year is having 15-month-old babies dressed in bathing suits. Did everybody forget about Jon Benet? Plus did anyone think that there might be some sick people out there that might put little babies in thongs thinking it was funny or little itty-bitty teeny white yellow polka-dot bikini? This is just unacceptable. It makes us look like a bunch of hicks, and I would love for something like that to be printed up. I don’t care if you put my name or not because I think this is totally, totally irresponsible of the board or whoever put that on there. Please call me back, and I would love to have a printup in the Jessamine Journal on my feelings on this along with several other people who agree with me on this, that babies, and I don’t even know if the middle schoolers and high schoolers are going to be dressed in bathing suits, but this is not acceptable at all. Especially for babies, especially for babies being put in trunks and little-bitty bathing suits. I don’t know what to tell my daughter to do, she wanted her in the pageant in a pretty little dress, and then there’s going to be some other sex offenders, which are all over Nicholasville if you’ve ever looked at the map. Oh, let’s put all these little babies and kids in…”(machine cut her off).
So there you go. I don’t know if it’s true about little babies in bathing suits at this year’s pageant, but if they are, there will be some upset people.
For the record, I also think that’s a terrible idea, but I think having 15-month-olds in a beauty pageant is also a terrible idea. If parents are going to put makeup on their toddlers and put them in $500 dresses so they look pretty for the judges, I think swimsuits are the least of our concerns…
Checked the Jessamine County Fair website, and the person who left the message on your voicemail is correct.

Children from age 0 – 4 years old will be posing in swimsuits/beachwear.
I also agree that the swimsuit/beachwear idea is terrible. Many of my friends and family wanted me to register my 2 year old daughter and 3 year old son in the pageant this year, but there is no way that will happen.
