Mosqueda leaving to take job at DII Anderson

2009 April 13

sk7r7213I just got off the phone with someone in the athletics department at Anderson University (S.C.) that confirmed that Asbury volleyball Coach Craig Mosqueda is “in the process” of being hired as the new coach of the Lady Trojans. Anderson is an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Conference Carolinas. Last season, the volleyball team finished second in the conference with a 24-14 record, 16-4 in the Conference Carolinas and won the conference tournament before losing in the first round of nationals.

Mosqueda will replace Jennifer Bell, who coached the Lady Trojans for 11 seasons. More on this later in the week.

Update: Here’s the release from Asbury:

Wilmore, KY – Asbury Volleyball Coach Craig Mosqueda is leaving Asbury as he has accepted the head coaching position at Anderson University (Anderson, South Carolina).  This season Coach Mosqueda led the Eagles to a 27-17 record as well as their first ever NAIA National Tournament Appearance this season, and their first KIAC regular and post-season titles.

Mosqueda leaves Asbury with 136 victories, second all-time, in eight years on the job.  Coach Mosqueda also led the 2005 Eagles to 27 wins which is the third most in school history.

Asbury Athletic Director Gary Kempf is thankful for the service Coach Mosqueda has provided for Asbury College.  “We are excited for Craig and his family for his new position.  We appreciate everything he has done for Asbury College and our volleyball program.  We will miss him tremendously, he’s left our program with a lot of talent and we look forward to building upon the foundation he has laid.”

Anderson University is an NCAA Division II school that competes in the Conference Carolinas.  Last season Anderson finished with a 24-14 overall record and a 16-4 mark in the conference.  They also won the conference tournament and advanced to the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
