Will Shouse Interview

2008 June 24

I sat with Asbury College men’s coach Will Shouse today to talk about his new job and next year’s team. He had some interesting things to say about his time at Kentucky Christian University and about how he envisions this Asbury team playing next season. His philosophies on offense and on matchups were particularly interesting, and it doesn’t sound like he’s too concerned about some of the KIAC’s post players. That has been the thorn in Asbury’s side the last couple of years, as they never really found a way to combat an athletic big man. Regardless, it sounds like this is going to be a fun team to watch. I also liked what he had to say about Brian Johnson, it’s the same thing that some of us who have been following Asbury basketball for a while now have been thinking. I’ll have a story on Shouse in this week’s Journal, and then I’m going to try to have a story about the team itself for next week’s issues.

Overall, though, I got a great vibe from Shouse — he’s another one of those guys like Flener who cares a lot about Asbury and wants to see the school put its athletics program on the map. Man, basketball season can’t come soon enough.
