From the desk of Tyler – May 28, 2008

In the spirit of random notes blog posts, some of the items that have crossed my desk and desktop today.

• The Wilmore-Stanford exchange is tomorrow. The two towns are visiting each other to see how they have improved their downtowns. Wilmore has done a great job working on revitalizing Main Street that it should have plenty to show off. Anybody that hasn’t checked out the new downtown green should go to the opening night of the Stonebridge Concert Series next Saturday.

• Don’t listen to anything the critics told you about the new Indiana Jones movie unless the critic said that it rocked. Because it did. I loved every second of it — it was done with the same personality of the originals. Plus, the car chase/sword fight scene is unreal to watch. The symbolism at the end is exciting, too; make your own inference.

• It has been the season of bizarre Jessamine County stories. The latest has to to with a dognapping that spans three states in three different regions of the country

• I just got in the mail The Flip digital camcorder. Supposedly the easiest recording device ever created, and it’s just a little bigger than my cell phone. I’m going to start carrying this thing around and get some video blog posts going at some point. It doesn’t have an optical zoom or any bells and whistles, but it’s cheap and reliable. I’ll give you some sort of review after I’ve had it for a while.

• I get to say this so rarely, I’ll take the opportunity now: It’s great to be a Reds fan.

• Speaking of Jay Bruce, Casey and I have been keeping our ears open for the best nickname. Marty and Hal have each called him The Natural, which is pretty good. I’ve also heard The Say-Jay Kid, The Midwest Messiah, The Phee-nom and Jay-freaking-Bruce. But our favorite so far is Bruce Almighty. Let me know if you have a better one.

• Last Reds bit, I promise. The team just announced that Corey Patterson has been optioned to AAA. As excited as that makes me, it bears bringing up one point — couldn’t they have done that before they DFA’d Scott Hatteberg?

• My Dunbar Bulldogs balked their way into the regional finals last night. Here’s hoping they don’t lay an egg against LexCath like they did in districts last week.

• Two weeks til Ichthus ‘08. I’ll be sure to blog about it during the festival, but in the meantime, Emily Moore is writing about the bands in the weeks leading up to Wilmore’s biggest event.

• Are we so technology-craved that we need wireless internet while we are getting our oil changed? Jeez, get an iPhone.

And you thought we had it bad here.
